Absences and absence types

Create and manage your account's absence types: name, code, category, mobile visibility, absence pool and secrétariat social codes.

Shyfter offers standard absences, but every company has its own reasons. Absence types let you name each reason, associate a category and an export code with it, and decide whether it is offered to employees. They then feed your counters, your schedules and your performance exports. Go to Settings ⚙️ → HR → Absences.

The list of absences

The table shows your existing absence types (for example Holidays, Sickness, Public holiday, Legal leave). A search at the top lets you quickly find a type. Each row has the Edit and Delete actions.

Creating or editing an absence type

The add button opens the creation panel (identical when editing). It has the following fields.

  • Name: the label of the reason (for example "Holidays" or "Sickness"). Mandatory.
  • Code: the associated short code, limited to 5 characters (for example VA, MA). Mandatory, it serves as a marker in exports.
  • Absence type: the category to link the reason to, chosen from a list (for example legal leave, sick days...). This is what links the reason to the right counter. Mandatory.
  • Show this absence type in the mobile app (leave request): when enabled, the employee can choose this reason when making an absence request from Shyfter Staff.
  • Show the counter of this absence type in the mobile app: shows the employee, in the app, the balance of this absence type.
  • Absence not counted in worked hours: tick this so that this reason does not enter the total of worked hours.

The absence pool

You can turn an absence type into an absence pool: a credit defined in advance from which requests draw. By enabling this option, you fill in the default pool value and its unit (in hours or in days). This is useful for managing envelopes such as "recovery days" or "seniority leave" with a starting balance.

Secrétariat social and SILAE codes

If secrétariats sociaux are configured on your account, a code equivalence section lets you associate this absence type with the corresponding code for each of them, via a dropdown list with search. For SILAE, the code is entered as free text, exactly as it appears in your file. This mapping ensures that the absence goes out with the right code in your payroll exports.

On French accounts, additional sections appear after saving the type, to specify its handling in the France payroll report and in the annualisation.

Save

Finish with Save. The absence type then becomes available everywhere: in scheduling, in absence requests and in counters. To track a type in a dedicated counter, link it to an absence counter.
