Reject a candidate and archive their application

Reject with or without an email, note an internal reason, and tidy your board afterwards.

Rejecting is part of the job, and Shyfter lets you choose whether the candidate is told by email or not. Nothing is erased in the process: a rejected application stays available.

Reject

From the candidate record, click Reject. You can also drag their card to the Rejected column of the stages board: the same window opens.

It asks you two things:

  • Send the rejection email to the candidate: to tick or not. Unticked, the candidate is told nothing, which is useful if you would rather call them yourself.
  • Rejection reason (optional): an internal note, which is never sent to the candidate. It serves you later, when the person applies again or when a colleague picks the file up.

The candidate then moves into the Rejected column, and the rejection is written into their timeline.

Rejecting erases nothing

A rejected application stays available. You find it again in the Candidates list, and its full timeline stays on its record.

If the person struck you as good but it was not the right moment or the right role, add them to the talent pool before rejecting them: you will find them again at the next opening.

Tidy your board

The Rejected column ends up getting long. From the record, Remove from the pipeline takes the card off the board. Shyfter reminds you what that implies before you confirm:

  • the card leaves the Rejected column;
  • the person stays in your talent pool if they had consented to it;
  • the application stays available through the Archived filter.

Find an archived application

In the Candidates list, three filters are offered at the top: Active, Archived and All. Switch to Archived to find what you took off the board.
