Free shift notifications

Send a targeted alert to your team members to let them know a slot is available and encourage them to apply.

When a free shift stays without a taker, you can passively wait for someone to see it, or be proactive and send a notification directly to the team members most likely to take it. That's the purpose of free shift notifications.

They complement the free shifts system by letting you actively inform your team, rather than relying on them checking the app spontaneously.

Access free shift notifications

Go to Team → Free shift notifications (or in the Schedules menu depending on your version of the app).

Send a notification

  1. Select the free shift or shifts for which you want to send an alert.
  2. Choose the recipients: all team members, or a filtered group (by section, skill, contract, etc.).
  3. Add a personalized message if needed.
  4. Send.

The selected team members receive a push notification on their Shyfter Staff app inviting them to check the available slot.

Automatic vs manual notifications

The manual notification (described above) is triggered by the manager on demand.

Shyfter also lets you configure automatic notifications: when a free shift is created, an alert can be sent automatically to a defined group of team members. This option is configured in the free shifts settings.

Free shift notifications and the Shifts Market work hand in hand:

  • Notifications inform team members that a slot exists.
  • The Shifts Market then handles the application and assignment process.

You can use notifications without enabling the Shifts Market (first come, first served assignment), or combine both for maximum control over who takes what.
